Tree Branch Tragedy Leaves Indian Family Shattered In NZ

An Indian-origin employee in a horticulture business, Pradeep Singh, died after a tree branch fell on him while carrying out maintenance work at his home in Cambridge, Waikato, New Zealand. Singh’s death left his wife with no family, income or support system in the foreign country.

Singh’s family and friends knew him as Deep. Witnesses said Singh was helping others trim tree branches on his day off when he suffered a serious head injury.

Those working along with him said that they rushed to his help hearing him cry out. He suffered an injury on the left side of his head probably after being struck by a branch that bounced back or was hit by equipment being used during the work.

He was shifted to a hospital by the emergency services. Police said that they received a call to the property around 3.15 pm and sent a rapid response unit to the scene but could not save Singh.

Singh moved to New Zealand in 2023 and had been working as an operations manager in the horticulture business. He got married to Kamala just six months ago. He was the sole earning member of his family and financially supported his elderly parents living in India. His mother is paralysed.

His wife has no money, support system and is completely alone now. His friends and local community members launched a fundraising campaign to help shift Singh’s body to India for funeral rites and support Kamal.
