Indian Woman Killed In US Supermarket Robbery

An Indian-origin woman was shot dead during a robbery attempt at a supermarket in the US. According to her family members, the victim, Meghnaben Patel, 45, belonging to Gujarat, had been working at the supermarket in Virginia for the last decade.

Meghnaben hails from Jantral village in Visapur district in Mehsana. Her father Karsanbhai Patel and mother Kapilaben live in Jantral. The woman is survived by husband Upendrabhai Patel and two children — son Smith and daughter Nakshiben.

On hearing to the rifle shots, the people at the supermarket informed the police who rushed to the scene. They examined the CCTV footage which showed a man wearing animal print tracks and a grey jacket, with his face covered, walk into a near-empty store, and head to the counter.

He conversed with a woman across the counter and a few moments later, he put his hand into his pocket, pulled out a gun and shot at her. The footage showed the woman collapse and the assailant slide over the counter and continue to fire. Then he jumped back, dropping a few items in the store on the floor, and walks out of the store.

Police began investigation.
