The ultimate dream for many Indians who travel to the United States is to secure the green card there and settle down in the country. But the prevailing administration has been making it extremely tough for these settling population.
Last week, the immigration authorities communicated that anyone who is currently on a temporary visa in the United States will have to travel back to their home country to apply for Green card and permanent residence.
This is a significant blow to the H1B working population, which is aspiring for the green card. But now the latest news says that the United States immigration authorities have made a rare exemption to this case.
In a new statement, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesman Zach Kahler suggests that green card applicants in the U.S. who will provide an economic benefit or serve the national interest will be allowed to complete their processing here, without having to leave.
But the volume of the economic benefit that needs to be delivered and also the national interest in question here have not been determined, so this will be ultimately at the discretion of the authorities.
But at large, the majority of the Indian population might not suit into this category and they will be having to stick to the original intent of traveling back to India while applying for green card.
