USA: Telugu Student Critical After Fall At Metro Station

A Telugu student who went to the United States to pursue higher education is currently battling for her life in a hospital following a severe accident.

As per reports, 22 year old Telangana girl Spandana Lagishetti, who is the elder daughter of Srinivas and Sunitha from Nagarjuna Colony in Naspur (under Mancherial Corporation limits), moved to the US after completing her B.Tech in Chennai. She is currently a second-year Master of Science (MS) student at Elmhurst University in Illinois, near Chicago.

On a routine day, while returning home from university, Spandana reportedly lost her balance at a metro railway station and fell from a height of approximately 25 feet down the stairwell.

She sustained life-threatening injuries to her head, ribs, and spine. She was immediately rushed for medical assistance and currently receiving intensive care at the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Spandana’s parents back home are heartbroken after knowing about her condition as they are unable to visit US due to lack of Passport and Visa. Her father, Srinivas, works as a cab driver in Mancherial and has been working tirelessly to educate his two daughters. Adding to the family’s plight, Srinivas himself suffers from a partially non-functional arm and leg due to injuries sustained in a past accident.

The devastated family met Mancherial District Collector Kumar Deepak on Thursday to officially request government intervention. Local MLA Prem Sagar Rao also met the family and assured them of his support.
