U.S. Citizenship Gets Costlier? What It Means for Indians??

United States President Donald Trump has been doing everything in his power to make life tougher for immigrants in the country. The Indian community has also been feeling the impact of these measures, and the Trump administration has now introduced another significant policy change.

United States, Department of homeland security has proposed the idea of increasing the US citizenship application cost by around 75% for all international immigrants.

According to the latest developments, the proposed DHS rule could raise the U.S citizenship application fee from $760 to $1,330 which is a 75% increase.

Officials say the increase is needed to cover the full cost of background checks, security screening, and application processing. But at the same time, this could significantly increase the financial burden on immigrants from now on.

The proposal would also increase appeal fees and eliminate most fee waivers for low income applicants, while keeping exemptions for current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The proposal is not yet in effect and must go through a public comment period before any changes can be implemented. Subsequently, for many immigrants, becoming a U.S. citizen could soon become significantly more expensive.
