Trump to Set a New Time Limit for F1 Visa Holders?

United States president, Donald Trump has made it a weekly practice to deliver some sort of a bad news to the Indian community settling there. After a large number of crackdowns on the H1B and green card visas, he’s now come down heavily on the F1 visas.

The existing regulations with regard to the F1 visa is that any international student coming to the United States can have indefinitely long stay as long as they meet the visa requirements. This gave them time to access the H1B and other work permit visas that are available here.

However, the new regulation that is being brought to action by the Trump administration in the United States will essentially restrict International students from staying not more than four years in the US.

If the student gains a working opportunity here, they will have to additionally apply with the Department of Homeland security and get approval for extended stay. This will be scrutiny of the department of Homeland security, the student to continue to work or leave to their origin country.

Till now, a large portion of the Indian student population used to travel to the United States on student visas and then sort some working opportunities there. They had enough time to assess the situations and find reasonable jobs.

But that will not even remotely be the case from now on considering that the United States authorities have imposed 4 years cap on the stay in the United States. This could prove to be largely consequential as many students might find it very hard to find adequate job opportunities in this restricted period.
