Dear NRIs, Celebrate Our Festivals Without Spoiling Public Places!

In Chicago’s Naperville, some Telugu students reportedly organised a Bonalu event, but the celebrations allegedly left the venue in a messy condition due to littering. After the gathering, including drinking, onlookers reportedly asked the students to clean up the place.

However, the students allegedly did not respond positively to the requests. Even after some onlookers tried to convince them to clean up the mess, the students were reportedly careless about the issue.

Video clips showing the condition of the venue after the Bonalu celebrations have been circulating on social media.

Many social media users have criticised what they described as the irresponsible behaviour of a section of Indians in the US. Some NRIs have also expressed concern over such incidents, saying that everyone attending community events abroad should respect local rules, clean up after themselves and maintain the ambience of public places.

While celebrating our festivals and taking pride in our culture is important, it is equally important to respect the places and communities where we celebrate them. Such incidents serve as a reminder that NRIs should celebrate their traditions responsibly, follow local rules, clean up after events and ensure that our celebrations do not inconvenience others or spoil public spaces.
