Lindsay Clancy’s high profile murder trial in Massachusetts has ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
The 12 member jury reportedly remained divided even after around 38 hours of deliberations over seven days.
Clancy is accused of killing her three young children in January 2023. She has admitted to the killings but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Her defense argued that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident.
The prosecution, however, argued that Clancy knew what she was doing and had deliberately killed her children.
The jury was reportedly split 11 to 1, with one juror preventing the panel from reaching a unanimous decision.
The mistrial means the case is still unresolved. Prosecutors will now have to decide whether to conduct a retrial, consider a plea deal or take another course. A status hearing has been scheduled for September 29.
