H-1B Crisis Forces Indian Families To Leave USA Silently

The American dream started fading away slowly due to tightening of immigration rules in the last couple of years. This is not just for newcomers but also for those who have been doing white collar jobs in the USA for many years.

Mass layoffs in IT sector, stricter scrutiny of H-1B applications, and uncertainty over green cards are reportedly forcing families to leave the country en masse silently. This is evident from ground reports through various reliable NRI portals and those who are working in housing sector firms.

In suburbs like Irving, Celina, and Melissa near Dallas, Indian families who lived here for years are suddenly leaving everything behind and going back to India. It is happening quietly, but it is hitting the local community hard.

As the grace period of 60 days after losing a job under H-1B is proving to be very less to find a new role, many of these families are reportedly feeling stressed out and deciding to make a silent exit from the country to home land.

To make matters worse, the housing market is totally stuck. Many of these families bought homes when prices were high. Now home values have dropped, sometimes by nearly $100,000, while property taxes keep going up.

Many owe way more on their mortgages than the houses are actually worth. They can’t afford to pay, and they can’t afford to sell because they would have to bring huge amounts of cash to the bank just to close the deal.

So, a lot of people are making a heartbreaking choice. They are just walking away. Some of them have stopped paying the property taxes and mortgage pay and simply leaving the keys behind before taking a flight to India.
