Amid ongoing immigration crackdown by US authorities against foreign nationals, especially those from India, an entrepreneur named Neal Bakshi alleged that border officers detained him at the airport after he returned from a holiday in Greenland.
Neal Bakshi, who was born to immigrant parents with Indian roots, is an author and entrepreneur who was born and raised in America, holding full citizenship. Yet, border agents stopped him right after landing, even though he has Global Entry access that is supposed to speed up border checks.
The immigration officers told him that he was just chosen for a random security check, but Neal did not believe them. He said he has been randomly picked for extra checks since he was a teenager, but this time it felt completely different.
Bakshi further alleged that he was targeted because of his race and skin color, rather than any real security issue. He was intentionally frisked and taken into a separate room for interrogation. He also claimed that border police asked him very personal questions and interrogated him about his links to certain groups.
Neal was eventually allowed to leave, but his story has raised big questions online about how minority citizens and especially those with Indian ethnicity are treated by US immigration officers.
