Bank Of America’s UPI Plan To Help NRIs Send Money To India?

Bank of America is working on a new payment bridge connecting Zelle in the US with UPI in India. The move could make cross border money transfers between the two countries faster and more convenient.

The bank is working with Early Warning Services on a pilot project that will connect the two payment systems. The focus is on making international transfers easier while keeping the familiar Zelle experience.

This could be particularly useful for NRIs in the US who regularly send money to their families in India. The proposed system is aimed at supporting remittances directly.

Bank of America is also expanding its cross border real time payment services to multiple countries, with India being one of the key markets. The bank sees India as an important market for the future of digital payments.

For NRIs, the bigger benefit could be faster transfers, lower costs and better transparency. However, the Zelle UPI connection is still in the pilot stage and is not yet a service available to everyone.

The development comes at a time when India is pushing to take UPI to more countries. With UPI already active in 11 countries, the latest move could further strengthen India’s position in global digital payments.
