Indian sailors working in international waters have been facing dangerous situations in recent times because of growing conflict and war in the Middle East region. Already, tens of Indians have lost their lives in various maritime incidents. Now, a boat carrying 14 Indians has allegedly been attacked in Red Sea.
Yemen’s Houthi rebel group claimed that Saudi Arabia targeted a boat carrying 14 Indian citizens in the Red Sea. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree posted on X that the attack happened near Zuqar Island, which is close to the crucial Bab al-Mandab Strait maritime route.
The rebel group claimed that Saudi forces fired at the yacht carrying Indian nationals without proper warning. They also stated that rescue team immediately managed to pull all 14 Indian workers to safety from the damaged vessel.
However, the exact medical condition and health updates of the Indian citizens remain unclear as official confirmation is still awaited.
The Houthi spokesperson strongly criticized the military action and called it a reckless step by Saudi Arabia. They warned that targeting civilian boats and commercial vessels threatens international shipping lanes and creates total chaos in the Red Sea.
Last week, an Indian national was killed after a drone attack on Riyadh airport by Houthis. Migrant workers and other Indian origin individuals in Middle East are in tense mode due to the ongoing conflict between nations.
