Till a few weeks ago, the Opposition TDP had an advantage over the ruling YCP in Andhra Pradesh. The ruling party was mired in its controversial decisions like reducing the tenure of state election commissioner (SEC) and removing Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and several others. Top courts such as the High Court and the Supreme Court have taken class to the government over its decisions.
Amidst this, the ruling YCP went into defense mode. However, tables have been turned. YCP has shot back like never before. It made its strategic move to target TDP’s senior leaders and former ministers who were allegedly involved in corruption.
The arrest of former Labour Minister Atchennaidu and TDP’s senior leaders JC Prabhakar Reddy and JC Asmith Reddy in BS-III scam that was unearthed by the Road Transport Department of Anantapur. The arrest of two of its senior leaders within a gap of hours indicates that the ruling party made its move perfectly.
With back-to-back arrests of two opposition leaders, the whole political atmosphere in the state has changed. TDP is now pushed into defense mode. With local body elections ahead and Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is back as the SEC, the ruling party is allegedly unearthing the corruption charges on the opposition leaders. Let’s wait and see how the opposition TDP would sustain and retaliate the ongoing arrests.
