The Telangana budget sessions for the year 2022-23 commenced without the Governor’s speech. This decision of the TRS government turned controversial and this raked up the differences between CM KCR and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
In her first reaction, Governor Tamilisai opined that the TRS government was technically correct in its decision to hold the budget sessions without the Governor’s speech. Speaking to ANI, Governor Tamilisai said, “I was informed that the Assembly was adjourned, not prorogated and it is technically agreeable. But morally the state government should have included the Governor’s speech.”
“Governor’s speech is nothing but the cabinet approved speech. I did not want to block the benefits that people would be getting from the budget. So I endorsed and permitted the sessions to take place instead of holding it for my speech,” said Tamilisai.
But the Governor Tamilisai added that Governor’s speech is a (constitutional) custom that needs to be followed yet many incidents without the Governor’s speech have happened in the past. And lastly she said she was not disappointed with this episode.
Apparently CM KCR is unhappy with Governor Tamilisai that she delayed a few government decisions including approving the MLC ticket to Padi Kaushik Reddy.
