Naidu Day Dreaming On Telangana-TDP!

The other day TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu met Telangana Telugu Desam leaders and held talks. In this meeting, Chandrababu made strange comments that Telangana-TDP should emerge as the alternative force to TRS in the state.

TRS, BJP and Congress are the major parties in Telangana and in the recent past Sharmila with YSRTP and retired IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar with BSP are trying to make inroads in Telangana politics. But what about TDP? Many call it a sinking ship and one has to accept this fact.

Post the separate statehood was achieved, T-TDP failed miserably in all the elections and for the first time in history, T-TDP failed to contest in Lok Sabha polls held in 2019. Hyderabad is the only place, T-TDP has a little bit of following but no time, the party lost the charm too.

Many popular leaders vacated the party over the years. Reckoned as Chandrababu’s shadow, Revanth Reddy is now in Congress while L Ramana switched loyals to TRS. With leaders taking their own political route, the cadre too divided and followed their respective leader.

Under these circumstances, Chandrababu’s meeting with T-TDP leader took place and he advised the leaders to strengthen the party and bring back its lost glory. Naidu expressed hope that T-TDP can bounce back, if leaders work hard and agitate against the anti-public decisions of the state government. Later Chandrababu appointed and announced in-charges for 27 Assembly constituencies.

But how can the T-TDP regain its glory? T-BJP chief Bandi Sanjay resumed his second phase of Paadayatra and Telangana Congress is planning to rope in Rahul Gandhi and hold a massive public meeting while T-TDP has no plan of action in hand to win the trust of the people. With no clear agenda in place, is it possible for T-TDP to see the light?

Political observers are apprehensive of Chandrababu’s thoughts on T-TDP and criticised him that holding a meeting once a while based on the mood doesn’t really matter. It is one hell of a task ahead for the party because T-TDP is now a sinking ship and needs a miracle to change the dynamics.
