In Nellore district, thieves robbed a village volunteer who was carrying pension money worth Rs 15.55 Lakh to be paid to the beneficiaries. Going into details the volunteer withdrew the above quoted amount from the bank being the first of the month and he was on his way to CR Palem from Bogolu.
At Woodhousepeta of Alluru mandal, the thieves attacked the volunteer and robbed the money. However, the village volunteer chased the thieves on bike but in vain. The visuals of the chase were captured by the volunteer but the thieves raced with the looted money without a trace.
Later the volunteer identified as Haribabu lodged a complaint with the police. The police suspect that people who have knowledge of pension money withdrawal might have committed the robbery and the investigation is on.
Meanwhile CR Palem Panchayat has 623 pension beneficiaries and with this robbery, they are unlikely to get the pension for this month unless the police catch the thieves and recover the robbed money.
