The Sri Lanka crisis has deepened. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his official residence in the capital Colombo following protesters storming it. As per media reports, thousands of protesters have clashed with the police and breached barricades to break into the president’s official residence. During this, protesters and police have clashed.
At least seven people, including two policemen, were injured during the breach into the presidential house whereas overall 21 people were injured in the latest protests. The pictures of protesters barging into the president’s residence have gone viral online. President Rajapaksa fled for his safety ahead of the planned rally by protesters over the weekend.
What’s more? Protesters live-streamed the breach on Facebook. Video footage from local TV channels showed protesters carrying Sri Lanka flags and carrying helmets while barging into the President’s residence.
The viral video clips witnessed protesters shouting slogans against president Rajapaksha. The protesters were seen marching through rooms and corridors of the palatial presidential building. Several people walked around on the grounds outside the presidential building with no security officials in near sight.
