The Obsession With YSR’s Name & Statues

The YCP government is obsessed with late YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s name and statues and probably AP has more statues of YSR than any other political personality. Having said that, one more YSR statue has surfaced and it is at Yogi Vemana University in AP CM YS Jagan’s home town Idupulapaya.

This university was established in the Congress regime in 2006 when late YS Rajasekhar Reddy was the CM. When the university’s construction was completed, a statue of Yogi Vemana was erected opposite the administrative building. Now this statue has been removed by the university officials and YSR statue was placed. The Vemana statue was relocated next to the gate which is a total disgrace.

Having noticed this, the students of Yogi Vemana university fumed over the officials. The students demanded to restore the Yogi Vemana statue in its original place else they would take up this issue to the notice of AP Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan.

It can be understood that YSR played a huge role in establishing Yogi Vemana university but it doesn’t mean that the great poet should be insulted to give the credits to YSR. Instead the university authorities can name any block after YSR and give him the honour. Lately the YCP government has been doing the same i.e, renaming universities after YSR.

When will YCP get over this obsession of renaming and replacing universities in the state after YSR?
