Prime Target Of Sharmila In Telangana

YSRTP president YS Sharmila’s arrest during her padayatra in Telangana has taken her to the centre stage and she became the talk of the politics. The BJP and Congress leaders expressed solidarity with her and criticized the rude behavior of the police. Several politicians have begun discussing about Sharmila and her vote share in the next elections.

It is learnt that Sharmila would continue her padayatra from the same point where the police had arrested her. The TRS leaders have been slamming Sharmila and saying that that all the family members of YSR are anti-Telangana. There had been several arguments on who had scripted Sharmila’s party launch.

The discussion over Sharmila revolves around the strength of the YSRTP and in which constituencies of Telangana will have her party have an impact. The first place where the YSRTP will have a major impact is Khammam district. On July 8, 2021, Sharmila launched her party from Khammam district and the main reason behind it is the presence of a large number of YSR supporters in that place. Even after the bifurcation of the state, people in Khammam district are inclined towards YSR family.

In 2014, YCP candidate Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy won as the MP from Khammam Paliamentary constituency. Apart from the MP seat, the YCP also won three MLA seats in Khammam district. After this, AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had neglected Telangana and began focusing on Andhra Pradesh.

Even now, there is a political unrest in Khammam. Several leaders of the Congress, TDP and YSRCP who joined the TRS are dissatisfied and are looking at the YSRTP, said political analysts.

Former Chief Miniter Late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had implemented several schemes in Khammam district. He resolved the dispute over forest lands and distributed podu lands to the tribals, which had been pending since long. He also provided some facilities to several non-tribals in agency areas. He launched several irrigation projects.

The Dummugudem-Sitarama irrigation project was launched during the YSR rule. In Khammam district, YSR had good support and after his death, this support had turned into Sharmila’s strength, said political observers.

In Telangana, YSR has a large number of supporters in Khammam and Nalgoanda districts. There is buzz that Sharmila would contest the elections from Palaiar but it is too early to finalise which party would suffer loss due to the YSRTP.
