Three Years For 3 Capitals: What Was Achieved?

Exactly three years back on this day, AP CM YS Jagan announced 3 capitals to Andhra Pradesh in the Assembly. “AP will have three capitals in the next two years,” said CM Jagan but the reality is there is a big dilemma surrounding the capital with legal litigations and political issues.

Despite the severe criticism from every corner, CM Jagan is hell bent to implement his idea of three capitals. For now Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh and it is well within the jurisdiction. But the main argument we hear from the political analysts is despite announcing the three capitals, nothing was achieved in the last three years.

Political analysts opine that there is an undercurrent political strategy for YCP behind three capitals. By the next elections, if people are not convinced with the welfare schemes which are fancy and financially attractive, Jagan led YCP government wants to use three capitals as a weapon to win the votes. They say that there is a possibility that YCP will bring forward the agenda of developing three regions with three capitals.

Accordingly the YCP held large scale public meetings in Kurnool which was promised the High Court while Vizag the Executive Affairs. Ironically the YCP as party did not make any concrete announcement but their leaders are extensively voicing for split capitals.

If we look at all the political developments surrounding three capitals, the YCP gained absolutely nothing from this announcement. This means YCP needs better political strategies to win the confidence of the people.

On the other hand the feedback from CM Jagan’s welfare schemes is a mixed opinion. The YCP government has not done anything significant but is restricted to implementing a dozen of schemes for the people who truly needed financial support, is what the political observers believe.
