Dramatic events took place on Friday morning at Gitam Medical College in Vizag. The revenue officials of GVMC have reached Gitam college early morning and have identified government land in the college premises. This action of the revenue officials brought a tense atmosphere as there were reports in the media that the state government had initiated a demolition drive.
On the other hand, the Vizag police have house arrested local Telugu Desam leaders and deployed huge personnel surrounding the Gitam College and media was restricted from entering the college. The police searched vehicles on all the roads leading to the college, thus a panicked environment was created.
Bheemili RDO claimed that they have identified government owned land near Gitam College and laid fencing so that encroachers would be aware that the land belongs to the state government. “14 acres of land touching the Gitam college belongs to the state government. We marked this land long back and today we have laid fencing for 5.25 acres of land. There are no constructions in this land and our only intention was to complete the work as early as possible and so we have arrived early morning,” said RDO Bhaskar Reddy.
TDP leaders objected to police officials stopping them. “We were on our way to meet the GITAM chairman. But the police stopped us. The YCP government is unnecessarily creating disturbances and bringing G.O.s late night,” added Korada Rajababu.
