Ex-Minister, Former CBI-Director Vijaya Rama Rao Passes Away

Former CBI Director and Ex-minister Vijaya Rama Rao passed away due to health complications. He was 85.

Vijaya Ramarao suffered from a brain stroke on Monday morning and he was immediately admitted to Apollo hospitals in Jubilee hills. He breathed his last at 7 pm.

Vijaya Rama Rao served as minister for Undivided AP. He was an IPS from the 1959 batch and later served in various designations. He was the Hyderabad Commissioner during the 1984 drought times. Vijaya Ramarao worked as CBI director and during his regime, he investigated many prominent cases like Hawala, Babri Masjid case, and the Mumbai Bomb blasts case.

Vijaya Ramarao graduated from his LLB course while he was still in service. He later retires from the services and authored a book, ‘Police Manual’. He contested from TDP in 1999 and won against Congress’ P Janardhan Reddy. He served in Road and Buildings ministry during Chandrababu’s rule.

He joined TRS after state bifurcation. Vijaya Rama Rao was born in Yeturunagaram in Telangana and did his schooling in Nellore district Venkatagiri. Vijaya Rama Rao completed his BA at Madras University and later worked as a lecturer at SRR College in 1958.
