The YCP government has geared up for the 2024 elections. Ahead of the elections, the government has taken up a new programme ‘Jaganannaki Chebudam’. As part of it, the volunteers, Gruha Saradhis, party leaders and MLAs would visit every household and stick ‘Maa Nammakam Nuvve Jagan’ stickers to the doors and gates.
According to sources, the YCP high command had asked the party men to understand the pulse of the voters during the sticker campaign and also try to influence them if they are against the YCP government, making it clear that the programme is a sort of survey by the ruling party.
There are reports that the MLAs faced the wrath of the public with many of them expressing their dissent to have the sticker on the walls of their house. While some had removed them, a few other reportedly tore off the stickers. The public is dissatisfied with the YCP governance as unemployment is increasing by the day and development has taken a backseat.
Reportedly, a few of them feared to remove the stickers and remained silent as they feared that the volunteers, who keep roaming in their streets frequently, might take cognizance of the issue and stall giving the benefits of welfare schemes to them.
The volunteers were also told to explain about the good the YCP government is doing to the public. The voters should be made happy by developing ‘a connect’ with the people.
A few YCP leaders involved in the sticker campaign are playing it safe by not raising the issue when in front of the people. There is criticism that Jagan has not mingled with the people in the last four years but asking only his party leaders to do it.
The opposition leaders are also trying to hit back the YCP through the same sticker campaign. They are sticking stickers saying that ‘Maa Nammakam nuvvu kadu jagan’. The sticker war is likely to reach a crescendo in the coming days.
It has to be seen how this new programme would help the YCP and the opposition parties in influencing the electorate.
