SC Gives Green Signal, Big Victory For Jagan

In a setback to the Amaravati farmers, the Supreme Court gave green signal for distribution of house sites to the poor in the R5 zone of the Capital Region in Amaravati.

A bench, headed by Justice Joseph, heard to the prolonged arguments of both the state government and the Amaravati farmers, and gave nod for the distribution of house sites to the poor. However, the apex court made it clear that both the state government and the farmers of the capital region will have to stick to the AP High Court’s final verdict.

The Bench heard to the petitions filed by the Amaravati farmers challenging the HC’s interim order that land could be distributed to the poor in the CRDA limits.

While the advocates of the state government said that only 5% of the total 32,000 acres was being distributed to the poor in the R5 zone, the farmers contended that GOs were issued indiscriminately, in violation of the CRDA rules and expressed fear that the land given by them for the construction of the capital might get misused.

The SC said that if the HC verdict went in favour of the Amaravati farmers, then the house site pattas distributed by the state government will have to be taken back. In the same manner, if the verdict is in favour of the state government, the distribution of house sites will continue, the top court said.
