Decoding BRS list: Reddy Community Dominates!

This afternoon Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced the names of BRS candidates who will be contesting the Assembly elections. KCR himself will be contesting from two constituencies and that was totally unexpected. Coming to the community share, once again the Reddy community dominated.

Out of the 115 MLA candidates announced, 39 people hail from the Reddy community. The likes of ministers Malla Reddy, Sabita Indra Reddy, Prashanth Reddy and a few other notable names have retained their spot. MLC Padi Kaushik Reddy will be going up against Etela Rajender from Huzurabad.

The second biggest community that received maximum seats is SC. 19 Schedule Caste candidates were given a chance and former deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari has displaced T Rajaiah from Station Ghapur constituency.

KCR’s own community, Velama and Schedule Tribe community received 11 seats each while six seats were allotted to Kamma community (within Hyderabad area) and three people from minority community also found a place.

KCR has not announced the name for Goshamahal constituency and there are speculations that sitting MLA T Raja Singh might join BRS. If this happens it would be a huge gamble and minorities within the Hyderabad region might distance themselves from the BRS.

However, the biggest disappointment in the list is lack of women representation. Only seven women received confirmation and that’s a big downside.
