Then Jagan, Now Babu – Will History Repeat?

Chandrababu Naidu, has been detained by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on allegations related to a skill development project scam. There is a prevailing belief that Naidu’s arrest and the manner in which it was conducted will significantly boost his political standing in the run-up to next year’s elections in Andhra Pradesh.

It is believed that this could prove advantageous for Naidu’s political career. With a determined ambition to secure victory in the upcoming election, Naidu is framing this arrest as an opportunity to gain political advantage. In this context, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s previous arrest is frequently cited as an example.

There is still a consensus that Jagan’s arrest marked a pivotal moment in his political journey and contributed to his political momentum. Jagan, who founded the (YSRCP) in 2011, was arrested in May 2012. He faced charges related to illegal assets and spent 16 months in Chanchal Guda Jail. Jagan was eventually granted bail in September 2013. Analysts opine that Jagan’s political ascent gained momentum after his release. In the 2014 elections, YSRCP won 67 seats, and Jagan, capitalizing on his role as the opposition leader, led the party to victory in 151 seats in the 2019 elections, subsequently becoming the Chief Minister.

Now, there are speculations that a similar scenario might unfold in Chandrababu Naidu’s case. Political experts anticipate that the circumstances surrounding Naidu’s arrest may create favorable conditions for his return to power. Defeating Jagan Mohan Reddy won’t be an easy task for the TDP, but Naidu is already putting in the hard work to achieve success. People are now suggesting that these arrests, particularly during his political tours, might provide an opportunity to enhance Naidu’s public image and benefit his party. The consensus is that such arrests can be used strategically to bolster Naidu’s position.
