Despite the concerns that are being raised by the common public, the government of India has been persisting with the decision to supply E20 petrol in the country. This is essentially a blend of 20% ethanol and the rest being petrol that is being applied for petrol vehicles across the country.
However, the latest establishment that is being made by the Congress government representatives in Karnataka has come as a rude shocker to everyone.
Minister of civil supplies in Karnataka, Rizwan Arshad addressed the media today and he categorically revealed that the volume of the ethanol that is being blended in petrol is not 20%, but more than 30%.
According to Rizwan, the Karnataka state tested 63 petrol samples collected across Karnataka from major oil companies, including IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, Shell and Nayara.
After oil marketing companies failed to clearly disclose ethanol content, the government sent the samples to private labs and here’s a look at the results of this testing procedure.
IOCL: 31.2%+
HPCL: 30.5%
HPCL: 27%
BPCL: 26.5%
Nayara: 26.1%
Shell: 25.5%
The findings revealed that 4 out of every 5 samples contained more then 20% ethanol blending, while oil companies failed to provide clear answers.
These are the results pertaining to the state of Karnataka for now, and it has to be seen if other state governments would also be going after the same procedure to identify the blend of petrol that’s being used.
