The nomination process, which ended on November 10, revealed two interesting points, both sure to shock BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
It was found that the maximum number of nominations were filed in Gajwel and Kamareddy constituencies, particularly because KCR is contesting from both places. It is worth noting that some sections of the society had already decided to file nominations as KCR’s rivals.
While 154 nominations were filed in Gajwel, 102 nominations were filed in Kamareddy and majority of them belong to disgruntled communities, societies and groups which are not happy with KCR rule.
They constitute various caste associations, rythu sanghams and victims’ families.
The nominations filed in Gajwel and Kamareddy included those from unemployed youth associations and even members of martyrs’ families.
In 2018, a total of 23 nominations were received but only 13 of them contested and KCR’s victory was a cakewalk.
At that time, there was no disgruntlement against KCR. However, the situation has changed now.
In the last five years, discontent had brewed against KCR in some communities. There are several communities which have expressed their discontent with KCR’s rule.
In Kamareddy, only 9 persons filed nomionations in 2019 but now as many as 102 people are vying for the MLA seat.
This time, the number of contestants had shot up even when the BRS leaders tried to pacify the dissidents. However, none could stop these sections from filing their nomination papers.
In Kamareddy, farmers are fuming at KCR for snatching away their lands unilaterlly, in the name of Kamareddy municipality’s master plan.
Similarly, workers migrating to Gulf countries in search of a job and bereaved families of governent employees are also unhappy with KCR.
It is estimated that there are over 30,000 Gulf victims’ families and they had filed nominations as KCR’s rivals.
A similar situation is prevailing in Gajwel too. It has to be seen how things would pan out in the future.
