National Jana Sena: Double Trouble For Jana Sena

After the BRS, the Jana Sena is also likely to push the voters into confusion over the party symbol. For the illiterate, the symbols of political parties play a vital role during voting.

There is one political party named National Jana Sena which is also contesting the elections in Telangana. Two candidates from the party Koninti Pawan Kalyan and Naga Venkata Varaprasad had already filed nominations for the upcoming elections.

The issue here is not just the names of the parties, even party symbols of Jana Sena and National Jana Sena closely resemble each other. The party symbol of National Jana Sena is a water bucket which appears more like the glass tumbler allocated to the Jana Sena. Either on the ballot paper or in the EVMs, these two symbols are likely to create some confusion among the voters. Even the names of the parties could be easily mistaken by the voter.

The BRS knows better how confusion over party symbols would affect the fortunes of a political party. BRS’ party symbol is car. Some Independent candidates were given tractor, jeep and road roller as party symbols. In rural areas, a few voters got confused over the party symbols and voted for the tractor, jeep and road roller mistaking it for the car during the last elections. Due to this ambiguity, over nine BRS candidates lost the elections. This could be identified when the candidates allocated the above symbols secured more votes when compared to the loss margins of the BRS candidates.

The Jana Sena too is facing a similar situation now. However, it is not known from how many more constituencies the National Jana Sena candidates are contesting. Jana Sena is contesting from a total of eight constituencies in Telangana, namely Kukatpally, Kodada, Tandur, Khammam, Madhira, Kothagudem, Wyra and Aswaraopet.
