Responding to Babri Masjid demolition verdict acquitting all the 32 accused including BJP’s senior leaders LK Advani, Uma Bharti, Murali Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Vinay Katiyar and others, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi termed it as a “Black Day” in Indian judiciary.
Owaisi said, “Who demolished the Masjid then if all are innocent?” Owaisi quickly added,”Whole world knows who demolished the Babri Masjid.” Owaisi blasted both Congress and BJP for the tragedy that took place on December 6, 1992 in Ayodhya. Citing Supreme Court’s previous comments on Babri demolition where the Apex court termed it as “egregious violation of the rule of law”, Owaisi said that the Muslims have not got “justice”. He urged the All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to appeal the verdict of the Special CBI court.
It can be noted that, the Special CBI judge Surendra Kumar Yadav, while pronouncing the verdict, observed that demolition was not “pre-planned” and happened in the “spur of the moment”. Delivering the verdict, Justice SK Yadav didn’t accept newspapers and video cassettes as evidence. The court said there was no conclusive proof against the accused.
Of the 32 accused in the 28-year-long case, 26 have personally attended the court today, while others attended the hearing via video conferencing, including Advani. Initially, 49 people were accused in the FIR, however 17 other accused have died, and out of them, three high-profile accused were Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Giriraj Kishore, Ashok Singhal and Vishnu Hari Dalmia.
