Former minister Galla Aruna Kumari has resigned from TDP’s politburo, party’s top body which plays a crucial role in policymaking. Aruna Kumari has sent her resignation letter to party chief Chandrababu Naidu last night. While she hasn’t revealed the exact reasons for her resignation from politburo, Aruna Kumari cited personal reasons for quitting the politburo post. However, there is much more to it.
For a while, there have been reports that Aruna Kumari is unhappy with the party for not giving her due importance. Firstly, she wasn’t given the party ticket to contest in 2019 Assembly elections from Chandragiri constituency. Since then Galla Aruna Kumari has been inactive in TDP. But the latest move indicates that she is unhappy with Naidu’s decision.
TDP has recently announced the in-charges for the 25 Parliamentary constituencies. Party president Chandrababu has chosen Pulivarthi Venkata Mani Prasad (Nani) as the in-charge for Chittoor parliamentary constituency. Pulivarthi Nani is also Chittoor district president for the party.
Naturally, Galla Aruna Kumari doesn’t like it. Since Naidu had denied her ticket in 2019 from Chandragiri and given the ticket to Pulivarthi Nani. This could be the reason for Galla Aruna’s latest disappointment and might have pushed her to exit from the Politburo team.
A longtime Congress leader who served in YSR’s cabinet and won three times as Chandragiri MLA (1989, 2004 and 2009), Galla Aruna Kumari had moved to TDP after the state’s bifurcation. She contested from Chandragiri Assembly constituency in 2014 on TDP ticket. However, she lost to YSRCP’s Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy then. Later in 2019, the ticket went to Nani Pulivarthi.
It can also be noted that Aruna Kumari’s son Galla Jayadev is the sitting MP of TDP from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency. Jayadev won twice as MP from Guntur in 2014 and 2019. He is playing an active role in the party. TDP is of the view that his son is being given due importance.
