Cross-Voting Played Spoilsport in ZPTC, MPTC Polls!

After sweeping the municipal polls and winning the highest number of Mayor and Municipal Chairman positions, the TDP-led alliance continued its winning streak in the ZPTC and MPTC elections. However, the results also threw up some unexpected shocks and surprises for both the ruling alliance and opposition YCP.

In some mandals, the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance won more MPTC seats but lost the corresponding ZPTC seat. In other mandals, YCP secured more MPTC seats but failed to win the ZPTC election.

Going into the details, East Godavari district’s Korukonda, Chittoor’s Penumur and Karvetinagaram, Krishna district’s Gannavaram, Eluru’s Buttayagudem, and NTR district’s Veerullapadu and Jaggayyapeta, the results reflected contrasting voting patterns.

These results clearly point to cross-voting and differences in voter preferences between the MPTC and ZPTC elections. The lack of coordination among TDP and Jana Sena leaders and alleged mistakes in candidate selection are also being cited as reasons for the alliance’s setbacks in some constituencies.

The contrasting results across these mandals indicate that voters did not necessarily follow the same voting preference in ZPTC and MPTC elections. Cross-voting has influenced the outcome in several constituencies, changing the electoral fortunes of candidates from both sides.
