In a peculiar story, the speaker of Andhra Pradesh has approved the resignation submitted by Vizag North constituency TDP MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao. But this isn’t a fresh resignation submitted by Ganta, but instead the resignation he filed with the speaker two years ago.
In February 2021, Ganta submitted his resignation to the speaker in protest against the proposed privatization of the Vizag steel plant. The speaker didn’t pay heed to the resignation then and kept the resignation in the records.
And today, as Rajya Sabha polls are approaching and the polarization of MLA votes is being seriously looked upon by YCP and TDP, Ganta’s 2-year-old resignation has been approved instantaneously. This should come across as an unexpected shocker for Ganta two years after his submission. With this, TDP is one more MLA short in the Rajya Sabha nominations.
