The MLC nomination procedure in Telangana took an unexpected turn after the governor, Tamilisai, rejected the candidature of BRS-nominated candidates Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana. This occurred towards the end of BRS’s tenure, as the governor opined it was crucial to have morally upright individuals in MLC positions.
Subsequently, after the formation of the Congress government under Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the new government submitted the candidacy of Professor Kodandaram and Amir Ali Khan, which was promptly approved by the governor. However, a legal complication arose as the MLC nomination procedure was brought to court after the governor invalidated the candidacy of the BRS candidates.
Today, the Telangana High Court issued a sensational order regarding the MLC nomination. The court ruled that the governor’s rejection of the BRS-nominated candidates’ candidacy was unconstitutional. Consequently, the court invalidated the nomination of Kodandaram and Amir Ali Khan as MLCs and directed the governor to issue a new notification for the MLC nomination, initiating the nomination process from scratch. The governor is now mandated to comply with the court’s order.
