RRR Is 3rd Richest MP, Still No Ticket?

Rebel MP from Narasapuram K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju has always been conspicuous by opposing the ruling YCP in Andhra Pradesh. One other revelation adds another feather in his cap. He is the third richest sitting MP in the country, possessing assets worth Rs 325 crore.

Over 25 Lok Sabha MPs of the total 514 have declared their assets each worth more than Rs 100 crore, according to the self-sworn affidavits analysed by the poll rights body Association of Democratic Reforms.

According to the ADR, of the 25 billionaires, nine of them belong to the BJP. However, they are not the wealthiest among the sitting MPs. This indicates that the BJP always prefers nethas with deep-pockets.

However, despite being one among the wealthiest of the MPs, RRR was not issued a ticket by the BJP or any other alliance like TDP & Janasena. BJP had declared the names of six Lok Sabha MP candidates from the state but RRR’s name was missing from it.

RRR and his supporters expected that the Narasapuram seat would be allocated to him but none of the parties in the TDP-JSP-BJP coalition picked him. The BJP declared Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma from Narasapuram. Significantly, RRR also did not join any of the three parties, even after quitting the YCP. In 2019, he won as an MP on YCP ticket.

After severe backlash from alliance parties and amid ignoring the RRR ticket, unconfirmed reports suggest that Chandrababu has convinced all to allot a ticket to Raghurama Krishnam Raju. The announcement is pending confirmation. Now, it has to be seen if the revelations in the ADR report would change the mind of the BJP bigwigs in New Delhi.

The top two wealthiest sitting Lok Sabha MPs are from the Indian National Congress (INC). Currently, the INC has only 46 sitting MPs, of which just a couple of them have declared their assets.

However, these two MPs, constituting 4 percent of the total Congress MPs, are the richest among the 514 Lok Sabha MPs.

The two MPs are Congress’ Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) MP Nakul Nath, who declared assets of over ₹660 crore. He is the richest among the total 514 sitting MPs in the country, according to the ADR report.

Bangalore Rural MP DK Suresh, with assets worth ₹338 crore, is the second most wealthiest sitting MP in the Lok Sabha.
