Kamma + Kapu, Witness The Magic Tomorrow

Andhra Pradesh’s historically significant assembly and parliamentary elections are drawing to a close tomorrow with the counting commencing at 8 AM. While we have Jagan’s YCP on one side, we have TDP, BJP, and JSP alliance on the other. What about the prospects of the two camps and the caste-wise polling trends?

Factually speaking, the Kamma and Kapu communities have historically been averted by the sight of each other. Never in the history of the Telugu states have these two groups worked together in an election. Kamma vs Kapu fight was been there from Ranga times. It is visible in Tollywood as a section of fans of Nandamuri and Mega Heroes divided by caste.

In 2019, the polarisation of the Kapu votes against the TDP and in favour of YCP was so very strong that, it played a crucial role in ultimately giving YCP a historic lead of 151 MLA seats. This wouldn’t have been possible without outright support from the Kapu voters, who form a major chunk of voter base in AP. In 2014, When Janasena supports TDP, many kapu voters divided between YSRCP & TDP.

But things have changed drastically in 2024 as middle ground was found between the Kamma and Kapu communities in an almost magical manner.

According to a seasoned political observer who closely monitored the polling trends in AP, the Kamma and Kapu communities acted the best interests of their leaders Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan respectively. The alliance between TDP and JSP played a decisive role in the coming together of the Kamma and Kapu community voters, say reports.

It is being heard that the Kamma and Kapu communities have heavily rallied with the alliance and the vote transfer also has been very smooth. This positive vote share and the existing anti incumbency in AP are said to have worked the trick for the alliance which strategically operated in such a way that not even a single anti-YCP vote goes in waste.

A feeler of this magic was already seen with the majority of the exit polls being extremely in favour of the alliance and we could be witnessing the true effect of the same tomorrow once the EVMs are opened. The result of this magical collaboration will apparently become evident in tomorrow’s electoral verdict, say ground level observers.
