Political Sentiment: One breaks, the other continues in AP

Political sentiments relating to parties, constituencies and individuals are of different varieties.

It is believed that if a party wins from a specific constituency, then the party would clinch victory in the entire state or if a party loses from a certain constituency, it would certainly win in the state.

However, many of these sentiments are short-lived. But, some of the sentiments have been continuing for the last few decades.

With the Assembly polls just concluding, two of such significant sentiments need special mention at this point of time.

While one of the sentiments has remained intact even after the 2024 polls, the other one has broken.

Let us take a look at the sentiments.

According to one of the sentiments, it is believed that any individual taking oath as the Speaker of the Assembly would get defeated in the immediate elections.

This has remained intact from united Andhra Pradesh to even after the bifurcation of the state. This sentiment has not broken at least once till now.

It was believed that this sentiment would break after the 2024 elections but it is still continuing.

Tammineni Sitaram was the Speaker during the YCP rule but in 2024, he suffered a defeat, thus proving that the statement regarding trouncing of the Speaker in the next elections is true.

After the split of the state, Kodela Siva Prasad was the Speaker and in 2019, not just he but the party to which he belongs, the TDP, also suffered a humiliating defeat. He was trounced when he contested from Sattenapalli.

In 2019, Tammineni Sitaram contested from Amudalavalasa.

As per the second sentiment, it is believed that the party candidate who wins from Uravakonda segment in Anantapur district, the relating party would certainly get defeated in the state.

This sentiment has been proving to be true till now but during the 2024 elections, it has broken.

TDP’s Payyavula Kesav contested from Uravakonda in 2024 and his party too won the elections with a thumping majority, thus breaking the decades long sentiment.
