BRS MLA Becomes First Politician To Be Charged

Under BNS Act The Indian government introduced a new criminal code, the Bharat Naya Samhita (BNS) Act recently. It came into implementation on July 1. Meanwhile, Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy became the first politician to be charged under this newly implemented Act.

A case was filed against him in the Karimnagar One-Town Police Station against Kaushik Reddy under sections 122 and 126(2) of the BNS Act. The charges were filed against him for allegedly obstructing government officials during a Zilla Parishad Meeting on Tuesday.

During the Zilla Parishad meeting, Kaushik had a confrontation with Karimnagar Collector Pamela Satpathy. Along with Kaushik Reddy and Pamela Satpathy, this meeting was attended by government officials and people’s representatives like ZP Chairman Kanumalla Vijaya, Additional Collector Praful Desai, as well as several ZPTC members and MPPs of Karimnagar district.

During the meeting, Kaushik Reddy pointed out a recent review meeting of the Education Department in his constituency. He mentioned that the District Educational Officer (DEO) had issued notices to the Mandal Education Officers (MEO) who participated in his meeting. He demanded an explanation from the collector on why these notices were sent and called for the immediate suspension of the DEO. BRS ZPTCs and leaders, who were present at the meeting, also protested against the collector.

Eventually, Collector Satpathy tried to leave the meeting. But Kaushik Reddy blocked her path and protested by sitting on the floor. The situation became tense, leading to arguments between BRS and Congress leaders. Kaushik also argued with the police officials at the meeting.
