‘This is Not a Curfew, So Relax,’ Says Hyd Commissioner CV Anand

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand has enforced Section 144 across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad for a month to maintain law and order. This decision restricts public gatherings, including protests, rallies, and meetings, unless permitted by the police, and violations may result in strict action. However, there is a criticism against this decision from public.

In the view of the same, CV Anand clarified that it is not a curfew but only empowering all police stations to be ready to initiate actions in some uncontrollable situations.

“This is just to clarify that this notification has nothing to do with the Deepawali festival celebrations. There are some other groups of people who are planning various types of agitations, surprise raids on secretariat, CMs residence, DGP office, Raj bhavan etc. We have intelligence report about it and this notification is to give legal backing to any police action in arresting such elements or detaining them. This is very routinely done by police all over the country depending on the need. This is not a curfew as some are falsely claiming. So relax,” posted CV Anand on X.

The recent directive coincides with rising unrest among the Telangana Special Police and their families, who demand a uniform policing system. Recent protests, including demonstrations in front of the state secretariat, led to disciplinary actions against 49 officers – 39 suspensions and ten dismissals.

Intelligence sources indicate potential further unrest within the Special Police ranks. Meanwhile, a separate controversy involving the BRS party has added to the tensions. A large quantity of foreign liquor was reportedly found at a farmhouse belonging to relatives of a BRS leader, prompting allegations of government bias.
