The Andhra Pradesh Assembly sessions are proceeding on a progressive note under the new NDA government. While the majority of the focus is on public policy-making, there are occasional references to Jagan Mohan Reddy as well.
In one such reference, Chandrababu Naidu brought up Jagan’s name and took him to task over the ‘Gulaka Rayi’ drama that unfolded ahead of the election. He was referring to the stoning incident when Jagan was hit by a stone in Vijayawada during the final leg of election campaigning.
“I completed my campaign and went to Hyderabad. My team started calling me, panicking about the incident. They were bewildered by the ‘Gulaka Rayi’ incident and worried that it might gain him (Jagan) sympathy. I have been in politics for many decades, but I haven’t seen a person like him,” Chandrababu said.
Naidu added that the public had moved on from such ugly tactics and that the overwhelming mandate in the election was a reaffirmation of his assessment.
By bringing up Jagan’s ‘Gulaka Rayi’ incident in the Assembly and dismissing it as a polling gimmick, Naidu effectively takes the wind out of the sails of the YCP.
Needless to say, the man who was hurriedly arrested in connection with the case was later released, and the matter subsided. Had there been any credibility to the claim of an attack on the CM, the matter would’ve been more serious, but that wasn’t the case.
