Pulivendula MLA and former AP CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy returned to Andhra Pradesh and held a press conference today. He was predictably selective about the topics he addressed, mostly focusing on defending himself against the allegations of his involvement in the Adani-AP government bribery case.
In a surprising move, Jagan announced his intention to file defamation suits against Eenadu and Andhrajyothi publications for allegedly misusing his name in the bribery scandal involving Adani.
“My name was not mentioned in the indictment issued by the US agency, but Eenadu and ABN have framed me in this propaganda to tarnish my image. I am giving them 48 hours to retract and apologize. If they fail to do so, I will file defamation suits worth Rs 100 crore against both Eenadu and ABN,” Jagan stated.
His intention was to clarify that he is not involved in the bribery operation concerning Adani’s power project in Andhra Pradesh that took place during his tenure as CM.
Meanwhile, Y.S. Sharmila, Jagan’s sister, has raised doubts about him and even asked him to swear by the name of his children that he did not receive any money from this deal. Despite the internal family dispute, Jagan is taking action against his external critics, seeking corrective measures against Eenadu and ABN.
The report from the US Department of Justice exposed the shady deal between Adani and the top politician in AP at the time, leading to speculation that Jagan, who was the CM of the state, was the individual mentioned in the case. This was covered by Eenadu and ABN, among other media outlets, prompting Jagan to demand a retraction and apology.
