1 Year Of CM Revanth Reddy: Strong, Gutsy, Mature

It has been exactly a year since Telangana has welcomed its second CM in the form of Revanth Reddy. After having led the Congress party to a remarkable win in the 2023 assembly election, Revanth Reddy officially took charge as the chief minister of Telangana a year ago today.

Revanth Reddy’s first year as the CM of Telangana has been a tale of strong decision making, gutsy methodology and mature internal affairs management.

Succeeding a veteran like KCR is a challenge in itself. But Revanth Reddy, despite being inexperience at the top cabinet level, has proved to be a solid and resilient chief minister right in his maiden year.

Revanth Reddy himself had earlier stated that he thinks 100 times before making a decision, but doesn’t give a thought about it once the decision has been made. This is a quality that we see amongst top politicians in the country, and Revanth has successfully incorporated it in his tenure as the CM of Telangana.

After having fought against KCR and KTR, for several years in the assembly, Revanth Reddy has finally attended the position of the leader of the house. After effects of Revanth’s historic win have been so strong that KCR hadn’t even partaken in a single assembly session since the election, despite multiple challenges from the CM.

Revanth hasn’t just been a solid and compact CM till now. he has also overlooked the Congress internal affairs with great maturity. Usually, the Congress party is known for group politics, where a section of leaders form individual groups and run matters on their own.

Even the versatile YS Rajasekhar Reddy, despite having surplus power at hand, used to find it hard to manage the group politics system in Congress. There were occasional expressions of descent from his own party members while he was the CM.

However, in the case of Revanth Reddy, the group politics system has been largely contained. Even veterans like Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Jana Reddy, and others have happily worked under Revanth without many complaints.

At the fundamental level, the imposition of HYDRAA was a very bold decision made by Revanth Reddy. This agency mowed down illegal constructions across the city which had encroached lakes and waterbodies.

While a section of the public appreciated HYDRAA as it is intended to restore natural resources in the city by clearing water body encroachments, there were several complaints against this project as well. The dissent has mostly been from people who lost their houses in this demolition drive.

However, not once did Revanth Reddy step back on this decision as he was firm on restoring the natural water resources in the city, which is hugely beneficial in the long run. HYDRAA was anyway designated not to affect the common public but at the same time, mow down illegal constructions.

Politically, Revanth has managed to sideline KCR almost completely as the latter is rarely making any public appearances. Administration wise, the effectiveness of the government appears to be positive, going by the public consensus. The party affairs are also very much under control.

Now, Revanth faces the challenge of upholding this momentum for the next four years and possibly retain power as he vows to be the CM of Telangana for at least 10 years.
