It is a known thing that the position of chief secretary is of penultimate importance in overseeing general administration and that’s why chief ministers prefer to have high-performing CSs under their disposal. This is more prevalent with administration-centric CMs like Chandrababu Naidu.
Coming to the topic now, Andhra Pradesh is set to welcome its new chief secretary. Chief secretary is K Vijayanand who will be taking charge tomorrow, December 31.

Energy Department is hereby appointed as Chief Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh vice Sri Neerabh Kumar Prasad, IAS (1987), Chief Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh, retiring from service on attaining the age of superannuation on the afternoon of 31* December, 2024, the government order to this effect read.
Notably, Neerabh Kumar was first appointed as the Chief secretary, three days after the Andhra Pradesh election – June 7 and he had been running the operations thus far. And now, the government has acted swiftly to appoint a new chief secretary with Neerabh retiring from service.
K Vijayanand is regarded as one of the reputed IAS officers in the country and he will be taking charge in under 36 hours from now. It is reported that this senior IAS officer shares very good ties with Minister Nara Lokesh as well.
