Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rekha Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The decision was announced by the BJP after the legislature party meeting held on Wednesday. This marks a significant political shift, as the party returns to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years.
The BJP secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 44 out of 70 seats. The results, declared on February 8, showcased the party’s strong comeback in the city, which had been under the rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the last decade. Gupta’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP, with her extensive experience and leadership within the party playing a crucial role in the decision.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister is scheduled to take place on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan. The event is expected to witness the presence of top BJP leaders, party workers, and thousands of supporters.
