KTR & Stalin Stands For Southern States!

The central government of India is proposing delimitation of constituencies based on the population. Already, there is a lot of criticism against this move. Many South leaders believe it is unfair to redraw constituencies solely based on the population. Now, BRS working president KTR also joined his voice in the movement against the center.

Acknowledging the opinion of Tamilnadu CM Stalin, KTR said that the center cannot penalize the Southern states for implementing family planning.

“You cannot penalize the Southern states for religiously implementing family planning when the nation needed it the most. To execute delimitation without considering the efforts of the southern states is not in the spirit of democracy or federalism. If the center is keen on implementing delimitation- I propose delimitation basing on the fiscal contributions to the Nation. None can ignore the contributions of Telangana and Southern states towards nation-building. As a case in point, while Telangana constitutes only 2.8 % of the country’s population, it contributes to more than 5.2 % of the nation’s GDP,” KTR tweeted.

KTR pointed out that while southern states made up 26.2 percent of India’s population in 1951, their share had dropped to 19.8 percent by 2022.

On the other hand, Stalin said, “Delimitation isn’t just about Tamil Nadu—it affects all of South India. A democratic process should not penalise states that have successfully managed population growth, led in development, and made significant contributions to national progress. We need a fair, transparent, and equitable approach that upholds true federalism.”
