BJP National President: Who Is In The Race!

The BJP is witnessing a closely fought race for the party national president. With the BJP likely to remain in the ruling for the next five years, the party national leadership requires a strong leader to deal with the party affairs.

As party national president J.P. Nadda has been elevated as a Union minister, the position has fallen vacant.

According to sources, there are four main contenders for the post, Madhya Pradesh former CM and Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Rajasthan former CM Vasundhara Raje, party general secretary Sunil Bansal and Maharashtra BJP leader Vinod Thavade.

At present, the party’s organizational polls are underway and the party national leadership is planning to complete electing the new president by March 15.

According to the BJP’s rules, elections of the party’s state units should be completed in at least half of the states in the country to take up the elections for the national president. BJP completed party elections in 12 states so far.

Polls have to be held in six more states before the polls for national president are taken up.

Meanwhile, Assembly elections are scheduled in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Gujarat next year. In all these states, the BJP has initiated organization polls.

At the same time, the party high command has asked party in-charges to suggest names for the national president.

The outgoing president JP Nadda assumed charge of the party in 2020 and successfully steered the party to clinch victory for a third consecutive time. Soon, he was elevated as a Union minister.

It has to be seen if one among the four contenders would get elected as the BJP national chief or in an unexpected twist, if someone else would make a sudden entry into the race.
