Costliest MLC Nomination In AP History?

The nomination process for Andhra Pradesh, MLC election got completed at 3:30 PM yesterday and this was comfortably swept by the ruling NDA outfit which has overwhelming majority in the assembly. On this note, we observed what could be considered the costliest MLC nomination in AP history yesterday and this is regarding BJP candidate Somu Veerraju.

Going into the story, a party must primarily issue A and B Form for a candidate to be eligible for nominated posts. These documents must have the signatures of national president and state president along with those of the recipient candidate.

However, for the AP MLC nomination yesterday, the AP BJP office apparently didn’t have the B Form for Somu to file his nomination. It was identified at around 10:30 AM yesterday that the necessary documents with BJP Chief Nadda’s signatures were in BJP’s head office in Hyderabad.

Subsequently, the documents were flown in a special flight from Hyderabad to Gannavaram. But that’s not all. These documents still require the signature of AP BJP president Daggubati Purandeshwari who happened to be in Delhi for the parliamentary session.

After getting known about the situation, Purandeshwari took another special flight from Delhi to Gannavaram. But again, her commute was getting delayed and the time was running out. The leadership then authorised BJP secretary Kasi Viswanadha Raju to sign the documents on Purandeshwari’s behalf.

By the time this process got completed, the nomination cut off time was nearly closing out. In the end, Somu could submit the relevant documents to the returning officer just 15 minutes before the cut off time of 3:30 PM yesterday.

Purandeshwari arrived at the assembly belatedly and by then, the documents were submitted. She then spoke with the local leaders and met CM Chandrababu along with Somu.

For Somu to file his nomination yesterday, two special flights were in effect and multiple factors had to come to play. Considering the resources that were used for this nomination, it is now being remarked that this has to be one of the costliest lamination filed in AP MLC history.
