The Only MLA Who Fights for IT Employees in Assembly

With stalwarts like Infosys’ Narayana Murthy, L&T Chairman S.N. Subrahmanyam, and ex-Niti Ayog CEO Amitabh Kant advocating for longer work hours, the Indian IT employees are in for a more challenging work-life balance. Several tech giants already have 70-hour to 80-hour workweeks, which most techies reticently follow.

Amidst these challenges, Kothagudem CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao’s demands in the Telangana state assembly on Monday come as a blessing in disguise. Talking about the plight of the IT employees in Hyderabad, the veteran leader has placed several demands in front of the Revanth Reddy sarkar.

“How many IT employees are working in the software companies in Telangana? Are the labour laws applicable to them? Most of these software employees have 10 mandatory work hours per day. Do they have a retirement age and are entitled to any retirement benefits or any other facilities as per law?” Sambasiva Rao questioned.

Kunamneni lamented that the IT giants have been exploiting the hard work of their gullible employees. “The companies are looting their prime youth, energy, and intelligence and are earning lakhs of crores. As a result, these employees are becoming old with joint and back pains at an early age of 50. They are unable to spend time with their parents, spouses can’t go out and watch a movie or play with their children,” he added.

Commenting further, Kunamneni said, “These IT employees do not know what a night or day looks like. Even their weekends are robbed in the name of work from home.” He went on to demand strict laws and regulations to prevent this exploitation. “There must be a regulation on this. All labour laws must be applied to them, and new laws must be formulated for their welfare,” he concluded.
