One of the most historic bill amendments were made in the Lok Sabha last night as the NDA alliance presented the Waqf Bill. The bill was presented in the Parliament house after midnight after an elongate session.
Considering the fact that this is one of the biggest and most influential amendments in Indian community political system, there was a lot of discussion on the same. However, the bill was passed in a rather comprehensive manner, thanks to the majority of the NDA alliance in the house.
In total 288 MPs voted in favour of the proposal to amend the bill while 232 MPs opposed the same. Thanks to the majority, the bill was passed without any further complications. The allies of the NDA alliance readily supported the amendment bill.
However, there was one untoward incident in the house after the same. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore the Waqf bill inside the parliament. He expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the same.
“The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is a weapon aimed at marginalising Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights. This attack on the Constitution by the RSS, BJP and their allies is aimed at Muslims today but sets a precedent to target other communities in the future. The Congress party strongly opposes this legislation as it attacks the very idea of India and violates Article 25, the Right to Freedom of Religion.” Rahul Gandhi tweeted on the same.
