Breaking : Telangana To Ban Crackers

Published by

In a significant development and a big blow to retail sellers of crackers, the Telangana High Court has ordered the state government to ban the sale and burning of crackers which is a tradition during Diwali festival. The High Court felt that pollution caused due to burning of crackers would be harmful to the Covid-19 patients. Responding to a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by P Indira Prakash, an HC advocate, the High Court made these comments. The court also asked the state government to give wide publicity to the ban and to inform the Court about the steps taken by the government on November 19.

With this, Telangana becomes the 10th state to ban the sale and burning of crackers. Already several retail outlets selling crackers have sprung up in the past few days across the state. The HC’s decision is going to cause huge losses to these retailers. More details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Delhi and NCR, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Haryana, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Chandigarh are among the states that have banned the sale and bursting of crackers.
